Get a video draft in front of your client without inviting them into the team’s workspace. You will use an upload stage for the file and a Client Portal link for external access.
1. Set up the upload stage
Section titled “1. Set up the upload stage”- Open your project and choose Add Stage.
- Name the stage so the team knows what to provide, for example “Rough cut upload”.
- Enable file upload and choose Video as the content type.
- Assign the person responsible for the upload and set a deadline if needed.
- In the Client portal section, enable Show review stage in client portal if the client should review the uploaded video.
- Choose Create Stage.
For supported uploads, Stago creates the paired review stage automatically when a file is uploaded. You do not need to add a second review stage manually.
2. Upload and check the draft
Section titled “2. Upload and check the draft”Open the upload stage, select your video, and wait for upload and processing to finish. Before sharing it, open the paired review stage and check that the video plays and is the version you intend to send.
If processing is still running, wait for the player to become available. A file finishing its transfer does not always mean the review preview is ready.
3. Attach the project to a Client Portal
Section titled “3. Attach the project to a Client Portal”Open Client Portals, then open the portal for this client. If you do not have one yet, choose New Portal and create it first.
In the portal’s Projects tab, choose Attach Project, select your project, and confirm. Check the project’s visibility in the portal as well as the stage visibility you set earlier.
4. Create the client’s access link
Section titled “4. Create the client’s access link”In the same portal, open Links and choose Mint link. Give the link a name that helps you recognize its purpose later.
Choose only the actions this client needs. Viewing, commenting, approving, requesting revisions, uploading, and downloading depend on the link’s available permission controls. A view-only link will not let the client leave feedback.
Set an expiry if needed. Password-protected links require Pro or Business. Create the link and copy it. Share the generated link with the client; the client’s route is separate from the internal project address.
5. Collect feedback and send a new version
Section titled “5. Collect feedback and send a new version”The client opens the link and uses the review controls allowed by that link. Comments on time-based media can point to the relevant moment; approval and revision requests are separate decisions.
When changes are needed, the team uploads the revised file through the appropriate upload stage. Return to the paired review and check the selected version. Keep the earlier version’s feedback with that version so the team can tell which changes were requested and which were accepted.
If something is missing
Section titled “If something is missing”| What the client sees | What to check |
|---|---|
| The project is missing | The project is attached to the portal and visible there. |
| The review stage is missing | Review-stage portal visibility is enabled. |
| The video is not ready | Upload and processing have finished; the correct draft is selected. |
| No comment or approval control | The link allows that action and the current review state supports it. |
| The link no longer opens | It has not expired or been revoked, and the portal is active. |
See Client Portals for portal management or Review and approval for decisions and feedback.
